For everyone wondering about the Paragon stuff--

The story's not over yet, shhhh-- all will be explained.

I have a LOT of plot to get to, I promise it gets tied up later.

I had the entire MAJOR plotline for this run written even before I started drawing this particular run. I just left parts open just in case the unexpected happened (like this death-- I manage to work it in though, as you will see).

We have only touched the plot-- when this run is all done and drawn you'll all look back at those comments and say "Oh.".

This is the run I actually cared to give a real story to, unlike my LG run (which had a story that heavily relied on the plot of the game and not its own plotline to tell the story).

YEEEES! Finally!
Can't believe I'm reading this but oh, I'm so happy! And I would be even more happy if WESTON DIDN'T SUICIDE!
Anyway, happy to read this, hope we won't wait another year to read the next part.

(Sorry for the english, I'm Italian)

Well Petty, I have to say I'm impressed. You actually made it to the Cianwood gym by the next update. Whatever, see you in another year.

In a sense I'm relieved. With Weston gone that means the comic will get right to the point again. I do admit though it's a pretty big cop-out to do all of that exposition nonsense. Show, don't tell, Petty. This is a comic, not a book.

Jirard (Guest), February 11th, 2015, 12:55 pm     Reply

Good to know all that build up for Weston's past led to him just getting killed off in the next part, makes me despise part 12 even more than I already did because now it truly did waste my time.

I was very pumped up for Weston. I thought it would unlock a HUGE plot point really soon.
Instead, he just died in a very anti-climatic way.

Oh well, I'm still more than happy and excited with the update.

Poor, poor Weston, he willingly gave his life and fought honorably.

Oh wait, this is a nuzlocke. Hey Petty, play the game better.

I just... *sigh* Is it just a running theme that characters in nuzlockes with the most complicated and in depth lineage get killed off? I had so many questions for Weston and now he's gone.

Guest, February 11th, 2015, 1:47 pm     Reply

@Enderman: its actually been believed that most nuzlockers kill off fan favorite pokemon on purpose in order to make the comic more dramatic

Tijopi11, February 11th, 2015, 1:50 pm     Reply

HUH? I was expecting Weston to survive throughout the ENTIRE comic, eventually to be the HUGE focus of a major plot point. This is definitely a big plot twist but...I have to admit, I don't like how that went because now it just sort of feels empty. Like the plot that's been building up, that we were all growing anxious and excited about, just went flat in front of us and now we have to sort of..start a new one? It's kind of confusing. Glad you updated though- update more often PLEASE!!

Enderman (Guest), February 11th, 2015, 3:32 pm     Reply

@Guest: So petty's doing this just to add more tension to the comic? What a cheap move.

@Enderman: Actually, on the forums, Petty explained that she kept trying to heal Winston until she thought he could get an attack in- and of course, it missed, so she decided to work it into the story.

Soooo there were 2 updates in over a year, both of them stuffed with pokemon going "PARAGON PARAGON PARAGON PARAGON" at Weston and then he dies and we still don't have a clue what the paragon fuss was about and frankly I don't have much reason to care.

I honestly have to say I'm not very impressed with these last four pages. There's a lot of drama about something you haven't told us a thing about. And on top of that, a significant part of that drama was in morse code so I imagine some people even missed it.

It's the equivalent of someone simply telling you "There was this really important fictional character but then he died."
It doesn't exactly make for an interesting story when you don't know anything about that person or his importance.

I don't know if you did it like this because your update rate is so low or because you had such limited time until Weston's death, but either way this subplot didn't tell us a thing, ended abruptly (unless his spirit comes back or something but whatever), and overall it just feels like a bit of a waste of these few pages.

Also, overall the game events are a bit lacking compared to the Paragon drama stuff... In 4 pages that took over a year to arrive, you defeated a tentacruel, talked to an NPC and partially fought a gym leader, leaving all other game events inbetween unmentioned. It kinda seems like you feel that the game itself isn't interesting enough and you need to replace it with something 'better'.

Please try to make it more about the game and less about these subplots, or otherwise make the subplots actually interesting and not some basic "the chosen one of [something undefined]" thing.

FleetNightHuntress, February 11th, 2015, 9:57 pm     Reply

I dunno about everyone else, but I'm actually... kind of curious? I mean, all the Paragon hype... and now Weston accepts his death as "fate", and there was that bright light... makes me wonder if there's something he had to do that he couldn't do alive.

(Edit: 2x Linkpost combo!)

@Petty: Yes, I look forward to hearing an explanation in about 8 to 9 years. It's cute that you're trying to convince us that an update will be up less than a month from now.

Joe Fat-One (Guest), February 11th, 2015, 11:32 pm     Reply

@Petty: And that's where the problem lies in. Unlike your LG comic, which knew it was a nuzlocke challenge, this is trying to be something it's not. A majority of people read nuzlocke comics to see if the player survives the challenge, not so they could wonder aimlessly about some Paragon nonsense. Just get to the point, that's all that's necessary in a nuzlocke challenge. Save your convoluted plots for something else.

I thought I all ready read DragonWolfRooke's Nuzlocke...

That said, I'm glad Weston's gone, for now. I'm sure he'll be back, though. Bleh. And I'm glad we actually got to see the gym battle this time.

I really miss seeing LOCKE'S pokemon. Has NYRA ever even spoken? And she had a Hoothoot at some point, right? I think that's why I don't enjoy this run as much as the last. It's not really about the team anymore. The only Pokemon who've had any lines are WESTON, ATHENA, and BROSEPH. Oh, and that Eevee. Just did a quick reread, ICHABOD said "Cool" and "Right" before he died, the HootHoot said she had a plan to get into the Kimono Theater, and the Pidgey had a few lines before he died. And that's it. Nothing from NYRA. Maybe she's mute?

I still think you're cool, Petty, and I hope your still having fun making this. See you next year!

Please, can everyone stop arguing? If you don't enjoy the comic, just click the back button. There's no need to bring down someone else's hard work. As for the infrequent updates, life happens. I don't think it's beneficial to our community if we fight like this, it upsets the artist and readers. Please, if nobody has adventuring nice to say don't say anything at all. I understand that you were trying to give CC, but sometimes people can come off as harsh.

Yay Update
So happy to see a new update to this comic, I really enjoy the story you're setting up, I've been noticing all the little changes you've been making to the Gen 2 story and I'm curious to see what the bigger story you have planned for the comic. Also happy to see you using a Parasect, they seem to get so little love but I've always liked them, they're one of the few 'tough but slow' types that I like.

Sorry to say I'm not upset to see Weston go though, I've long held a grudge against the Togepi line, them being pretty crap in their debut gen didn't help though I yours seem stronger than mine ever was. I'm left wondering if you'll end up with another 'Paragon' Pokémon now or if not who wil pick up the exposition? I suppose you're rather close to the islands so Lugia could show up but it seems a bit early for that.

Also, I'm so sorry your comment section was filled with so many haters so soon after the update, hope you don't get discouraged. Some of us genuinely enjoy your work and don't mind waiting for it.

I prefer it when nuzlocke's add to/ completely substitute the game's story with original content. It makes it more interesting for me.

Neither way of telling a story is better than the other. They just have different target demographics.

timemonkey, February 19th, 2015, 9:26 pm     Reply

@EnceladusTrainer: Can you recommend any other comics that do so? Preferably a completed one but an enjoyable ion progress would also be fun.

EnceladusTrainer, February 20th, 2015, 6:09 pm     Reply

"It's a hard life" is an ongoing one by Qlock.

"The Rite" by Pelliway looked promising, but it's on indefinite hiatus.

"Systematical Error" by beatrixthefinal looks interesting as well.

(These would be examples on completely overhauling the game's plot)

There were a lot of ones on DA, but I can't remember the names of them. :(

Then there is the infamous deconstruction "In Black and White" by Wasserbeinchen.

"Yonkoma Nuzlocke" adds a lot of depth to the characters.

"The Tyton Nuzlocke Challenge" by Haunshaul is also good with this.

(these stuck mainly to the game storyline but with extra sprinkles, like Petty's)

I'm ashamed to say I haven't read a lot, due to not having a lot of free time. But perhaps other people can suggest some as well...

Hey there, quick question.
It's great to see you back in action! I'm a huge fan of your Nuzlocke runs, and I'm very pleased with this update of yours. If you don't mind my asking, how do you draw these? Do you draw them on paper and then scan them, or do you use a drawing tablet and a certain program? I myself am attempting a Nuzlocke run, and it'd be quite helpful to get a little insight from you and how you do things. Thank you!

MichiruUsagi, February 25th, 2015, 8:55 pm     Reply

Yay! And some advice to another person
Bucky_Weasel2, I don't know what medium she really uses, but it doesn't matter what medium one uses to make a nuzlocke, just dedication, practice, and time. Judging from her current style I'd say she may have draw rough sketches on paper then drawn over it using photoshop or some other draw-able program.

As for the two new pages, I'm just grateful to know you haven't completely died out. When I first found this webcomic I thought it wouldn't update anymore and was sad about that. But now that I know that you truly just have lots of things in the way and that you LOVE doing it and won't ever completely abandon it like so many other Nuzlockes, well... Lets just say I'll faithfully check for new pages every now and then. I may even go back and re-read the previous pages to comment on them. See you when you have time to get new pages, whenever that may be.
